He’s an all-American boy with “Family Values.” He’s a heavy metal guitarist. He’s the thing that you always knew was hiding in your closet.

He’s Nathan Jonas Jordison, and he is the drummer for Slipknot.

Jordison, better known as  “Joey,” was born in Des Moines, Iowa on April 26, 1975. He was an active high school musician, drumming for both marching band and jazz band.

After high school, Jordison worked in Waukee, Iowa, at a Sinclair gas station, all the while playing with various metal bands from around the area. After some experience playing with bands such as Modifidious and Anal Blast, Jordison joined Slipknot, releasing an album with the group in 1996. Of this album, entitled “Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat,” only 1,000 copies were produced.

The group began to build momentum with its second album, which rose as high as No. 51 on the Billboard chart. Slipknot continued to build its reputation by playing several Ozzfest tours, headlining in 2001. Also in 2001, Slipknot released its breakout hit album “Iowa,” which debuted at No. 1 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

Following the success of “Iowa,” Slipknot went on hiatus. Jordison spent this time working on several side projects, including collaborations with Marilyn Manson. Most notably, he joined with Wednesday 13 (Joseph Poole) and Tripp Eisen to form a new band called “Murderdolls,” which became particularly popular in the U.K.  and Japan.

Jordison’s subsequent return to Slipknot has put Murderdolls on seemingly permanent hiatus, but he has continued to enjoy success with Slipknot. He tours and plays with other bands, including Metallica and Norwegian metal band Satyricon.

Jordison is currently scheduled to go on tour with Korn in summer 2007 to support the band on its “Family Values Tour.”
