Cindy Blackman – Music for the New Millennium

Cindy Blackman is a force to be reconed with on the skins. She has a masters touch and paints on a sonic canvass in brilliant colors in her laters release “Music for the New Millennium”.

I knew Cindy was a powerhouse having played with the “Who’s- Who” of funk, jazz and rock royalty, but I’ve been putting off this review so that I could keep these CDs… That’s right a double disc set… in my CD player.

While the radio plays ear candy on heavy rotation to serve the drooling masses, I pr

efer my daily dose of the 4 food groups, of which this new release is chock full of.

As after a good meal, I feel satisfied and energized while listening to the album. Cindy weaves her unique melodic and rhythmic voice through each tune with control and spacial respect. If you’re a jazz lover, you’ll dig it, if you’re a fusion lover, you’ll assimilate it and if you love the drums, you’ll be baptised in it!
